Policy
Editorial policy
The rules this site holds itself to, and the correction process when it breaks one.
Independence
Trail & Terminal is funded entirely by Amazon Associates commissions, disclosed on every page that carries a buy link and in full on the affiliate disclosure. No brand, retailer or agency has any input into what appears on this site, in what order, or how it is described. We accept no sponsored content, no paid placements, no guest posts and no paid links, and we do not accept product in exchange for coverage.
Sourcing rules
Every factual claim on this site falls into one of four buckets, and each is phrased so you can tell which:
- Manufacturer claims are attributed to the manufacturer. "Rated to 20°F by the maker," not "keeps you warm to 20°F."
- Aggregated owner feedback is attributed as such. "Owners consistently report the valve as the weak point," never "we found the valve failed."
- Independent testing by others is credited to whoever performed it, with a link where one exists.
- Our own reasoning is clearly our opinion, and the criteria it rests on are published in how we pick.
Things that will never appear on this site
- A claim of first-hand testing, field use or lab measurement we have not performed. We have performed none.
- A fabricated rating, review count, award or certification.
- A credential the author does not hold.
- A price, discount or savings figure we cannot verify at the moment of publication -- which, with no live price feed, means no price figures at all.
- A testimonial or customer review of this site. We have no verified ones, so there is no such section anywhere here.
- A product identifier we have not confirmed. Links go to current Amazon searches, not to hardcoded listings we cannot check.
Review and update cadence
- Roundups and comparisons are reviewed at least twice a year, and sooner when a product in them is discontinued or substantially revised.
- Checklists and guides are reviewed annually, and on any change to the underlying facts -- a revised standard, a changed airline allowance, updated safety guidance.
- Every page shows a visible last updated date. It is the date of the last substantive change, not a timestamp refreshed by a rebuild. If a page says it was updated, something on it changed.
Corrections
We will be wrong about things. The process when that happens:
- Email contact@trailandterminal.com or use the contact form and pick "correction." Corrections are answered before anything else in the inbox.
- If the claim is wrong, it gets fixed and the page's last-updated date changes with the fix.
- If the error materially changed a recommendation -- we ranked something first on a spec that turned out to be false -- we note the change on the page itself rather than quietly editing it.
- If a product we recommend is discontinued, it comes off the list rather than sitting there as a dead link.
Use of AI
This site is drafted with software assistance and published under human editorial control by Brijon M., who is accountable for every claim on it. Assistance does not change the sourcing rules above: nothing is published because a tool asserted it, and anything that cannot be traced to a manufacturer document, an owner-feedback pattern, published third-party testing or stated reasoning does not go on the page.
